cwabs - jjuices

I've posted these dudes before, but their newest release is so fucking good. The surfy guitar tone alone wins my heart, and lots of be-boops that you can't help but move to. Good music to wake up and get dressed to. They also sampled Twin Peaks, so it's kind of a given that I'm somehow into it. Annnnd just because I featured their previous shit, they sent me a tape for free, what great humans! Check it, and snag a tape.

The Fatty Acids - Leftover Monster

Honestly, I've only really listened hard to the first few songs, because they fucking rule. Synthy garage pop, maybe it'll help you break that winter sadness. They've released a decent amount of music, I'm sure you'll find something you dig.

Krill - Lucky Leaves

This album really grew on me. At first I thought his voice was unsettling, but now I love it. Interesting garage pop jams. Listen to Infinite Power. If you want to feel like a failure, that's your right.

The Halo Benders - The Rebels Not In

I slept on this until this summer for some reason, and that was a poor poor decision. Calvin Johnson and Doug Martsch kill it with the contrast of high and low vocals. I guarantee after a minute of Virginia Reel Around The Mountain, you'll be in.

Gunk - Gradual Shove

Philly never ceases to amaze me. Always keeping up with the jams. 90's vibes. At least listen to Just A Man, cause damn, that's just gold. A few of these songs have those hidden treasures halfway/toward the end of the song that take it in a place you never saw coming, very worth listening.

Told Slant - Still Water

Since I was a lazy piece of shit after work and didn't go see them tonight, I might as well post this. I listened to this a lot these past few months while going through some rough shit, so it hits me in some sort of way. In Parking Lots, the removed sounding electric guitar reminds me of the void loneliness similar to that of older Modest Mouse, then the banjo comes in and warms your heart as much as it can. Algae Bloom just straight up breaks my heart. I admire the sincerity of this album.

Japanese Breakfast - June

Ready to get sad? Listen to Day 5. Simple, lo-fi, catchy hooks that don't last nearly long enough, and some beautiful vocals. It's good to zone out to, and then you zone into a certain line that just punches you in the face.

Kempa - Dog on Crutches

Talk about music for the season. Dark, haunting, and beautiful. This lady's voice is killer - at times it reminds me of Aimee Mann, but a bit higher pitched. I have no idea how this isn't more well known.

The Spookfish

Background/sleepy time/zone out/walking music. Ambient experimental noises that are pleasing to the ears. Check out Knot or 山

Ovlov - am

Bassy grungy kinda poppy reverb goodness. I'm bummed I just heard about this recently, when I could have been jamming it for most of summer. Their other shit slays as well, especially What's So Great About The City. I think I listened to only that album for most of last fall/winter. Listen to The Great Alligator.

Algebrahs - Young Dreams

Real dreamy pop that you can definitely get lost in. Kind of like Real Estate, but a sadder tone. Leaves you in a gentle haze of yearning.

download

Literature - Arab Spring

I haven't relistened to this in forever, but now it won't leave any of my current playlists. Basically track after track on this release is catchy and fucking killer. Definitely the perfect time of the year to bust this back out anyway. Dat dancey jangle pop!

Soda Bomb - Hooligan

Sup summer jamz? Add this to yr summer playlist and hang hard. Real lo fi, loud, and silly garage punk/pop punk/whatever. Kind of like Big Kids, but louder, screamy-er, and filthy.

download

Treatment - s/t

Reverb drenched, echoey, shoegaze that will put you in a dream haze. I can't stop listening to this while I walk around and feeling like I transported back to the late 80s, early 90s. This is gold, and for what I know, does not have nearly as much exposure as this deserves. At least listen to Street Hearts, or Wonder Why.

Waldosia - I Like You Here

Emily Yacina's voice is one of the most angelic sounds to enter my earlobes. These are just a couple of beautiful acoustic songs. Great for just waking up, or winding down at night.

major bummer - three years

Major fuzz from major bummer. Some good warm day jams - beautiful and very smart is the track that kills it for me. Sunbathing music.

Nic Lawless - s/t

I've been finding it rather difficult to find Pittsburgh music that I'm immediately super fucking into, until I started hangin with a different crowd, and heard these dudes were opening for Iceage. Echoey reverb drenched vocals and lofi dreamy punk guitars - basically what you should listen to and get stoned and run around in the sun. I have renewed faith that more shit like this can come out of Pittsburgh.

Aldo Fisk - The Second Aldo Fisk Album

Quirky, simple acoustic jams about fun things (murder and bologna sandwiches and the weird kid on the bus). It's short, nonchalant, and easy to get into.

download

Brown Rainbow - Good Enough pt. 1

This is some rowdy, dirty shit from Philly. I'm not going to lie, I have maxed out my speakers listening to Cosas and just headbanged for the entire 4-5 minutes. "Reflection on life as an aimless asshole."

SSWAMPZZ - Sleeper

Right before I left my laptop in Philly for ages, I was jamming this all day errday. Every single song on Sleeper is killer. Loud, dirty, spooky surf punk. It makes me want to ride my bike through a cemetery at dusk, and then jump into a pool and drink a beer. If that description alone doesn't get you, then I don't know what will.

download

cwabs - burger burger

More video game-esque music. Surfy lofi summer music that brightens my day when spring feels like it will never come.

download

Slime Boyz - split

Do you like adventure time? Well this is virtually adventure time music, just more pop and weirder. Just blast Dogs Are Great and you will understand everything.

download

Catnaps - Shuteye EP

Music to hibernate to. Their sound got a little more laid back in this one, more fuzz, and more cute girl voices. "You said winter weather was such a novelty, but the snow hit my lashes so goddamn perfectly."

download

Lizard Kisses - Loving Creatures

Zone out and listen to this one, her voice makes me sleepy and happy. Two piece cute dream pop.

420 love songs

So if yr thinking, where the fuck has this chick been, did she fall off the face of the earth, or forget how to use the internet, or run off into the woods? I haven't had my laptop for a good six monthsish, so I sucked it up and bought a smart phone, but that thing is mostly dumb, so interneting has been rough. I am now reunited, and it feels okay I guess.

Here's a mix I somehow figured out how to download on my dumb phone and it's mostly lofi, mushy, weird, or sad songs, and they're all gold. There are two in this series, thus far, and personally I like the second one a lot more, and recognize a lot more of the artists. Plus anything with an Alex G. song on it that I don't have already is an automatic plus. If anything, get that second one.

Slow Warm Death - s/t (PS I'M BACK)

This is what John Galm has been up to - if anyone was wondering, lol. This album rips, I mean you pretty much know what yr getting into after a minute into the first song. It's got a real old, garage-y vibe, and I'm diggin' on it.
